CANYON COUNTY- THREE VEHICLE COLLISION RESULTS IN FATALITY

On June 7th, 2025, three vehicles collided in Canyon County just west of Nampa, at 11:19 p.m. A total of five people were involved in this collision between the three vehicles.

At the time of the accident, the first vehicle, a silver 2025 Toyota Tundra, was traveling northbound on State Highway 44. The driver of this vehicle, a 47-year-old man from Pasco, Washington, was accompanied by a 50-year-old woman, also from Pasco. As they began to cross the intersection of Riverside Road, their car was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling westbound. This vehicle, a blue 1999 Ford Escort driven by a 59-year-old man from Boise, had failed to yield to the stop sign, when he sped through the intersection, striking the Toyota. The driver of the Ford was also accompanied by a 29-year-old woman from Greenleaf.

Moments later, a third vehicle, a grey 2022 Honda Civic, came upon the accident. The driver, a 23-year-old woman from Port Aransas, Texas, was traveling south on SH 55. In an attempt to avoid the oncoming accident, she swerved off the road.

The driver of the Ford sustained critical injuries and passed at the scene. His female passenger, as well as both occupants of the Toyota, were transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for their minor injuries. The driver of the Honda did not sustain any injuries. All five individuals wore seatbelts at the time of this collision.

We are sorry to hear about this loss, and we send our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the man who passed. We also hope all other injured individuals will be able to make a full and speedy recovery.

Unfortunately, according to Idaho Transportation Department’s crash report in 2023, 17% of all motor vehicle crashes were related to or caused by distracted driving. Of that 17%, 48 people were killed because of these accidents. Idaho Department of Transportation says that of these crashes, “failing to yield” is the largest contributing cause. Multiple vehicle crashes accounted for 72% of all motor vehicle crashes in 2023, leaving a total of 19,807 multi-vehicle crashes.

LIABILTIY FOR ACCIDENTS IN IDAHO

No one who gets into or drives a vehicle wants to be involved in an accident. But unfortunately, car accidents happen. Idaho uses a fault-based system to impose liability on the party most at-fault for the accident. A legal principle called “comparative negligence,”  is applied to determine the negligence of all involved parties. If the Plaintiff’s negligence is less than 50%, then she generally can recover damages from the Defendant (or the Defendant’s insurance policy).

Our personal injury attorneys can advise injured persons about their particular case and how Idaho’s legal principles of negligence, causation, and liability apply to it.
