Personal Injury – Burns

BURNS

It doesn’t matter whether a person has been involved in a car accident, a product liability accident, or employment issue, burns are often one of the major causes of injury to a person. They can also be extremely painful, serious, and cause the most scarring of all the injuries. Most patients suffering from extensive burns will spend lengthy periods of time in hospitals, and incur thousands of dollars in medical costs. Then after all of this, the victim can still end up with permanent injuries.

Burn Injury Infection

Serious infections often follow burns. The reason for this is simple. The skin is the body’s barrier against bacteria. Once it is damaged the body becomes susceptible to bacteria and other contaminants. Medical care is required to address these problems with frequent dressings and cleansings to remove the infection.

Infections that are left untreated can lead to sepsis. This is a condition that results in a life-threatening infection that can travel throughout the body. If medical care is not sought, it can travel through the body and attack critical organ systems. Indeed, it can even lead to death if left untreated.

Psychological Injuries

Some of the most difficult injuries are psychological complications. Severe burn victims often suffer from trauma including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The constant changing of dressings or bandages can lead to depression and anxiety. Then there is the disfigurement that further affects these mental conditions. In the end, victims may suffer from reduced self-esteem, self-image and have difficulty being in public after serious burns.

Were You Burned in an Accident? You May Be Entitled to Compensation

If you or a loved one was severely burned following an incident, you may be entitled to compensation from the negligent party. You will need to have your burn case assessed by a personal injury attorney first.
