By Patrick N. George

Kidneys are pretty well protected since due to layers of muscle as well as the rib cage, but they can be injured in an automobile accident. When a kidney in injured, it can have terrible implications for a person due to the number of functions a kidney performs.

Trauma

During a car accident a person can be thrown or have objects inflict harm damage on the occupant. For instance, a t-bone type accident can result in the door of the vehicle being pushed into a person. Once the injury has occurred, it should be treated by qualified medical personnel as soon as possible. If left untreated, toxins from the kidneys could travel throughout the person’s body and cause damage to other organs and bodily functions.
